Heterosexual - You can tell from his poetry and the fact that he falls in love with women, that William is all about the ladies. Aside from some cliches about how gay men act and dress, the show hasn't shown any subtext for William being anything other than heterosexual. There are lots of examples of hetero William in fic, including Ariane's Never Leave Me, Evenstar's The Making of a Man, Pepperlandgirl's (Do I Dare) Disturbe the Universe, and my The Slayer & The Poet. |

Homosexual - Just because it isn't canon, doesn't mean you can't do it in fic, though. After all, there is the fact that William seems to be in line with the Aesthetic movement (a movement known for being popular with gay men of the times, like Oscar Wilde) and the fact that he's rather effeminate. No doubt, those in his social circle probably wondered if he *was* homosexual from time to time. Especially if he's continually refused to go with all of them [the men that is] on outings to houses of prostitution. So far I've yet to see an example of a completely homosexual William in fic. But with canon having him fall in love with women, that's hard to do, unless it's in a fantasy AU. Most of the time, if not hetero, William ends up... |

Bisexual - With William's value of love above all else, it's easy to see him as a bisexual. One example of bisexual William is The Green Chick's Rhymes With Gleaming. The other examples have a Buffy/William/Spike pairing, making William a little kinky for sleeping with his vampire self as part of a threesome. A couple of these are Evenstar's wonderful Three Come Blondes and Three Come Blondes Deux. |
